Spears With Gresh & Zo: NBA Free Agency No Longer 'Wild West'
Yahoo! Sports' NBA insider Marc Spears joined 98.5 The Sports Hub's Gresh and Hardy to lead off Happy Hour on Friday.
The Boston Celtics were quite on Thursday's NBA trade deadline, but will have plenty of cap space heading into the summer with the expiring contracts of Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett. However, Spears deflated some of the hype for the upcoming 2012 free agent class in the NBA, saying there won't be much out there this summer for the Celtics to rebuild with.
"I think there is a lack of talent in this upcoming free agency; it's not like two years ago. In this new CBA, and even in the last CBA, a lot of these young guys are restricted; you can get matched," he said. "Free Agency is not going to be the Wild, Wild West anymore."

Because of this, there is a good chance the Celtics will look to re-sign Allen and Garnett, if they are willing to return at a discounted rate.
"I wonder if they would be able to sign them at a much lower number next season; would Ray take under $10 million, would Garnett take $10 or less to stay?" said Spears. "They might be able to bring both of those guys back at a much lesser number and still do some damage in free agency."

"It could be possible those guys come back because if you look at the [free agent] list, are you excited about Kirk Hinrich? Are you excited about Jason Terry and Jason Kidd, Andre Miller and Ben Wallace?"
"KG and Ray Allen are looking a lot prettier right now," said Spears.
