Speaker: House Will Pass Municipal Health Care Reform This Year
BOSTON (AP) -- Massachusetts House Speaker Robert DeLeo says a plan to revamp the health care system for municipal employees will be passed by the House in time for the next fiscal year that starts July 1.
DeLeo told a breakfast meeting of the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce on Tuesday that the legislation will require all cities and towns to join the state's group insurance commission, unless they can form their own similar plan.
DeLeo says he expects the plan to save cities and towns at least $100 million collectively per year.
The speaker also vowed Tuesday that the House budget would include no new taxes and said he was hopeful that a casino gambling bill could be passed during the current legislative session.
