Sox Comeback Effort Falls Short
[photogallerylink id=27308 align=right]The Red Sox scored 2 runs in the 9th, but it was not enough, as they could not complete the sweep of the Phillies losing 5-3 on Sunday afternoon. Adrian Beltre (9) put the Sox on the board with a HR in the 2nd. Philly responded with 4 runs off of Tim Wakefield in the 4th including a 2-HR by Raul Ibanez. Boston cut the 5-1 lead in half in the bottom of the 9th, but Brad Lidge shut the door for the save, and the Phillies 5-3 win.
Tim Wakefield (2-5) went 7.1 innings allowing 4 runs on 7 hits, 1 walk, and 3 K's.
Cole Hamels (6-5) got the win striking out 8 over 7.
The Sox have Monday off they get back on the field Tuesday when they welcome the Arizona Diamondbacks to Fenway Park.
