South Korean Student's Body Found Off Rockport Beach
ROCKPORT (AP) — Authorities say a South Korean student has apparently drowned at a Massachusetts beach.
The Essex District Attorney's office said 22-year-old Si Jae Kim's body was found off Front Beach in Rockport on Sunday. He was one of seven students from the English Language Center of Boston who traveled there.
The district attorney's office said Kim went into the water to catch up to two classmates swimming to an offshore platform. They never saw him, and others said they assumed Kim had left.
They called police when they noticed Kim's belongings were still on the beach and some realized they'd last seen him swimming about 15 yards offshore.
His body was recovered when an officer using binoculars saw it in the water.
The district attorney's office said Kim had told a fellow student he couldn't swim well.
