16-Year-Old Shot, Killed In South Boston

SOUTH BOSTON (CBS) – A 16-year-old was killed and another teen was wounded in a shooting overnight in South Boston.

Police received a call around 11:20 p.m. Monday for shots fired at O'Connor and O'Callaghan Ways.

"We knew right away that something pretty violent was going on," said Will Contento who lives nearby.

"I heard probably about half a dozen 'no, no, no's' then about half a dozen gunshots so immediately, they were really loud too, to the point where I pretty much felt like it was in our building,"

Officers found two people wounded when they arrived.

The 16-year-old was rushed to Boston Medical Center where he died.

"The other one looks like he's going to be fine," Police Commissioner William Evans told reporters.

There have been no arrests.

"It was a cold night out here. I don't think there was many people out. We have one or two witnesses who were taken to homicide, but, as always, we need the public's help," Evans said.

Contento and his roommates were shocked a shooting occurred in their neighborhood but said they were determined to not let it affect how they go about their daily lives.

"This is a really polish community, I'd say a well-rounded community, we've enjoyed our time here so it's shocking to hear that happen in this area," Contento said.

Anyone with information should call Boston Police at 617-343-4470 or the anonymous tip line 1-800-494-TIPS.
