Red Sox Pick Up Option On Scutaro
BOSTON (CBS) – The Red Sox are set at shortstop next season.
Boston exercised their $6-million option on shortstop Marco Scutaro on Sunday, bringing back one of the most productive players for the Red Sox during their awful month of September.
Scutaro hit .299 in 113 games in 2011. As the Red Sox collapsed in September, Scutaro finished the season strong with a .387 average while driving in 21 runs during the month.

The 36-year-old Scutaro has been with Boston the last two seasons, batting .284 in 263 games. In 2009, he played in 150 games despite battling a shoulder injury for most of the season.
The move was announced by general manager Ben Cherington in a release.
