Source: Ortiz Only Out A Few Days
BOSTON (CBS) - The Boston Red Sox will have to live without David Ortiz, but at least it won't be for too long.
Ortiz underwent an MRI on Tuesday, which did not reveal a tear or rupture in his right Achilles. The Sox' DH is only expected to miss a few days, a Major League source told WBZ-TV's Dan Roche, but a trip to the DL has yet to be ruled out.
Ortiz, who was wearing a boot in the Red Sox clubhouse on Tuesday, will go for a second opinion this week.
"I have some pain. Today was worse than yesterday when it comes down to soreness, but there's no tear which is good," said Ortiz.
Ortiz On Injury:
Ortiz said he would likely be in the boot for about a week. He never feared it would be a season-ending injury though, because he never heard a "pop" in his ankle.
The Red Sox DH had to leave Monday's 5-1 win over the White Sox in the eighth inning when he came up lame rounding second on Adrian Gonzalez three-run home run. He said he suffered the injury when he stepped on the bag.

The injury occurs just as the Red Sox were finally getting their injured stars back beginning last week. Both Jacoby Ellsbury and Carl Crawford have returned to the Boston outfield, and injured second baseman Dustin Pedroia is expected to return on Thursday.

Ortiz was Boston's only All-Star this season, and leads the team in nearly every offensive category. He is currently riding an 11-game hitting streak.
