Source: Prisoner In Mass Eye And Ear Shooting Planned Escape
BOSTON (CBS) - Raymond Wallace, the prisoner accused of shooting a sheriff's deputy, had been planning an escape, a law enforcement source told WBZ-TV's Karen Anderson Thursday.

Two Middlesex County deputy sheriffs were taking Wallace to an appointment at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary late Wednesday morning when Wallace allegedly tried to grab a gun from one of them.
There was a struggle, one deputy was shot in the leg and his partner shot Wallace in the chest.
Wallace, 36, was rushed to Massachusetts General Hospital where he remained in critical condition Thursday.
A law enforcement source told Anderson an X-ray showed that Wallace had swallowed a handcuff key and he had been planning an escape.
The Suffolk District Attorney's office said Thursday Wallace is unlikely to appear in court any time soon because of his current condition, but added that he is expected to survive.
He's charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, assault and battery on a public employee, and escape.
