Source: Danny Amendola Won't Undergo Surgery For Groin Injury, Could Return Within 'A Few Weeks'
BOSTON (CBS) -- Varied and conflicting reports about the health of Danny Amendola have been circulating for days now, but there now appears to at least be a final word.
Sources told WBZ-TV's Dan Roche that Amendola will not undergo surgery for his groin injury, and he should be able to return to game action within a few weeks.
The Boston Herald's Karen Guregian first reported the news.
Amendola was limited with a groin injury in the week leading up to the Patriots' season opener in Buffalo, and he trotted off the field late in the second quarter grabbing the injured area in pain. However, he returned to play in the second half, finishing the game with 10 catches for 104 yards in a game the Patriots narrowly escaped with a victory.
Fox Sports' Jay Glazer reported Sunday that Amendola suffered torn adductor muscles, with doctors unsure if he suffered a sports hernia. If he had the sports hernia, he would require surgery, but now that is no longer the case. If Amendola were to have required the surgery, he would have been expected to miss more than a month, but now his return date will likely be much sooner.
Amendola began practicing again Monday after he missed the Jets game last Thursday night, and he is not doing any more damage by returning to the practice field, according to Dan Roche.
Roche also confirmed the Herald report that special teams captain Matthew Slater will miss four to six weeks due to a broken wrist.
