2 Mass. Residents Claim $250,000 Mega Millions Prizes
BOSTON (CBS) - A Somerville chemist has come forward as the first of five $250,000 winners from Massachusetts in Friday's $656 million Mega Millions drawing.
Robert Yu, 34, received the one-time lump sum payment of $250,000 (or $175,000 after taxes) Monday.
He said he plans to pay off his student loans and put a down payment on a house. He bought his winning ticket at Tedeschi's on Washington Street in Somerville.
Later on Monday, 22-year-old Kaleigh Rankin from Dracut came forward to accept her prize. She also took the one-time lump sum payment.
Rankin works as a receptionist at a spa and plans to use the money to go back to school and buy a car. She bought the winning ticket at the 7-Eleven on Mammoth Road in Lowell.
She says this was the first time she ever played the lottery.
The winning numbers from Friday's historic drawing were 2-4-23-38-46 with a Mega Ball of 23.
The winning tickets were sold in Maryland, Kansas, and Illinois.
