Some Expect Record Turnout For Thanksgiving Food Baskets In Boston
BOSTON (CBS/AP) — The Salvation Army expects a record turnout when its officials and volunteers distribute 1,900 Thanksgiving food baskets to needy families in Boston.
The charitable organization is distributing the baskets on Saturday afternoon at its facility in Boston's South End. Every family thgat lines up will get a Thanksgiving bundle with a complete holiday meal, including a turkey, stuffing and pumpkin pie.

Nearby in Dorchester, Boston Cardinal Sean O'Malley was among those handing out turkeys at a Catholic Charities distribution center in Boston.
O'Malley thanked volunteers who came out to help, while emphasizing the importance of giving back.
"We want to celebrate our connectedness to God and one another. And as a nation, we give thanks for all the blessings that we have had. We're the most prosperous nation in the world. At the same time, we've very aware that many of our brothers and sisters go without, even in the midst of all the prosperity and materialism in of this country," O'Malley said.

Some Expect Record Turnout For Thanksgiving Food Baskets In Boston
Charities say many families continue to feel the impact of the recent government shutdown and cuts in food stamps.
The Salvation Army says it has seen a 58 percent increase in Thanksgiving meals distributed since 2011, fueled in part by rising food and energy prices that have hit low-income families the hardest.
