"It's a great childhood dream to be here," Shea said. "Boston is great. I wouldn't want to be any place else."

The New England native says there will be 16,000 effects in the 20-minute display.

Some comets will soar a thousand feet up into the sky.

It's going to be a huge celebration as always but the design team did have the victims of the Marathon bombing in mind.

"It is a very different soundtrack, it's very soulful, very meaningful. The fireworks go with that very well," he says.

The fireworks are timed perfectly to match the music with a computer.

Shea will be on the barge during the show, making sure things go as planned.

There are a few changes to this year's celebration.

Fireworks will be launched from three barges instead of one and there will also be fireworks on the Mass. Ave. Bridge.
