Some Boston-Area Cinemas To Show 'The Interview'
CAMBRIDGE (CBS/AP) — Some Boston-area cinemas are making plans to show "The Interview" after Sony Pictures Entertainment said it would allow a limited theatrical release.
Apple Cinemas in Cambridge was scheduled to begin showing the Seth Rogen-directed satire on Christmas Day. The cinema has three showings of "The Interview" scheduled for Christmas Day.
"I think it's going to be very busy. Our phones have been ringing off the hook," said Joshua Martino, manager.
Movie-goers said they had a number of reasons they were glad the movie was being shown including they wanted to see it, to take a stand and they were curious about the controversy surrounding it.
Martino said they do not expect any issues on Christmas Day, but they have notified the City of Cambridge because they expect a lot of people.
The Somerville Theatre announced it would also start screening the movie that provoked an international incident with North Korea on Jan. 2.
Sony's cancellation of "The Interview" following threats from hackers drew widespread criticism, including from President Barack Obama.
A White House spokesman said the president applauded Sony's decision to authorize screenings of the film.
