Snyder On Toucher & Rich: Could The Yankees Get Out Of A-Rod Contact?
A report in the Miami New Times revealed that baseball stars Alex Rodriguez, Gio Gonzalez, Nelson Cruz, Melky Cabrera and Bartolo Colon were clients of a Miami anti-aging clinic that distributed performance enhancing drugs like HGH and IGF-1, both of which are banned by MLB.
Matt Snyder of CBS Sports joined 98.5 The Sports Hub's Toucher & Rich on Thursday to discuss how the New York Yankees might try to get out of Rodriguez' contract and what the MLB is doing to get to the bottom of this story.
In 2007 the Yankees gave a 32-year-old Rodriguez a $275 million extension over ten years. A-Rod still has five years and $114 million left on his contract, but the team could take steps to void the rest of the deal.
Should New York be freed from the contract? Would it be fair?
They went on to discuss the MLB choosing to investigate the story first before interviewing the players named in the report. Could there be some doubt towards the validity of the story?
They also discussed what future contracts might include; could teams start adding a clause to protect them from players who test positive for PED's? Would the player's association ever let that happen?
