Snowmobilers May To Be Blame For Train Derailment
CONCORD, N.H. (CBS/AP) – Snowmobilers may be to blame for a train derailment near Concord.
The New England Southern Railroad locomotive was not pulling any cars when it turned on its side Wednesday morning.
One person was sent to the hospital with head and leg injuries after the engine
derailed just north of downtown Concord. About 100 gallons of diesel fuel were spilled.
Bill Boynton, a spokesman for the New Hampshire Department of Transportation, told WBZ-TV Thursday that they are looking into evidence that a berm of ice and snow build up on the tracks from snowmobilers caused the train to derail.
The berm is created when snowmobilers cross down through the path between the rails of the tracks where they're not supposed to be.
