Snow To Be Worst During Evening Commute, Then We Get A Break

BOSTON (CBS) - Here's a quick update on our third snow event in the last six days. This one will not be a big deal, but more of a nuisance to those who have to be out and about this afternoon and evening.

Check: Current Conditions | Interactive Radar | WBZ Weather Blog

TIMELINE

Noon-5 p.m:

This is the "teeth" of this event, again a very quick moving burst of snow.

Steady snow is expected for about three-to-five hours in most of southern New England, up to an inch per hour in some locations. Road conditions will deteriorate steadily this afternoon.

Snow will change to rain over southeastern Massachusetts between 2 and 5 p.m. The rain/snow line makes it just about to Boston around 5 p.m., but by then the snow is already beginning to shut off.

These 6 hours are when nearly all the snow accumulation from this event will occur.

After 5 p.m:

The snow tapers to flurries for southern New England and completely shuts off fairly quickly. In northern Essex County and parts of southeastern New Hampshire, there may be a final band of snow between 5-to-7 p.m. which could make final totals an inch or two higher.

By 7 p.m. the snow is all up over the Maine coast and the cleanup can begin here.

ACCUMULATION

Extreme SE Mass. including coastal Plymouth county and most of Cape Cod: A coating to an inch or two of snow then a change to rain.

Near the Mass Pike from Boston to Worcester, including Norfolk County and southern Middlesex and Worcester Counties: 2-3 inches with a few spot 4 inch amounts.

Northern Massachusetts (northern Worcester, Middlesex and Essex Counties and SE New Hampshire: : 3- 5 inches with some heavier banding

This should be our last significant snow accumulation for a while.

Another quick moving storm will fly through here Wednesday evening but that should be mainly rain, with just a few flakes mixing in well north and west of Boston.

And then we get mild!

40's and 50's through the weekend!
