Snow, High Winds Cause Power Outages On Cape

BOSTON (CBS/AP) — A storm packing heavy wet snow and high winds is knocking out power for residents in the Cape Cod area.

NStar reported that more than 13,000 customers were without power Sunday morning, the result of a storm system moving up the coast packing wind gusts of more than 50 mph. Some areas could be blanketed with more than a foot of snow.

The most outages were in Yarmouth, where more than 2,500 customers were without electricity. There were about 1,800 customers were without power in Brewster, about 1,700 in Hyannis and 1,400 in Chatham.

By late Sunday afternoon, the number of customers without power had fallen sharply to 3,745.

The snowy weather is forecast to give way to mostly sunny conditions later Sunday, but the windy conditions are expected to persist with strong gusts.
