The Coast Guard and the Federal Aviation Administration say the single-engine Cessna crashed shortly before noon on Monday about 100 yards from South Cape Beach in Mashpee.

The pilot, Michael Keeling, and passenger Josh Adams made it to shore with the help of lifeguards from the beach. Keeling had minor injuries and Adams was unhurt.

Keeling said he decided to put the plane down in the water after experiencing engine problems.

In a separate incident, the U.S. Coast Guard says a seaplane carrying a father and two children has flipped over while attempting to take off in the Cape Cod Canal.

There were no injuries reported.
