Small Plane Crashes Near Marshfield Airport
MARSHFIELD (CBS) – The pilot of a small airplane was injured after he crashed in Marshfield Friday afternoon.
According to the FAA, the Maule M-5 crashed into a tree close to the George Hollowfield Airport.
The FAA says the plane had just departed the airport and was returning to land.
Peter Serrilla was making an oil delivery at the airport and rushed to help after he heard the crash. "Overhead I heard a plane with obvious engine problems," Serrilla told WBZ-TV. "As he swung around and did a u-turn he caught the top of the trees."
The plane nosedived into the ground and caught on fire. Serrilla says he got out of his truck and ran across to the woods at the edge of the runway. "I started yelling and the guy said 'yeah I'm right here' and we ask him how many people were in the plane and it was just him," Serrilla said. "He was able to walk almost right to us."
The pilot suffered minor injuries and the crash is under investigation.
