Slick Massachusetts Roads Slow Trip Home For Holiday Weekend Travelers
BOSTON (CBS) – The Sunday after Thanksgiving is one of the major travel days of the year, and slick roadways led to a cautious trip home in Massachusetts this year.
The best advice for travelers on Sunday was to pack some patience, with Massachusetts Turnpike traffic snarled all afternoon.
The Pike rest stops were busy throughout the day. Some motorists were gassing up. Others were grabbing a bite to eat, like Bhavi Mittal and his son, who returned to the Bay State from Connecticut on Sunday.
"With a baby in the car it's a little hard today," the Weymouth man said. "Just wanted to stop for a pizza and get something to eat."
Logan International Airport in Boston was teeming with holiday travelers on Sunday. The departure level at Terminal A was a sea of weary travelers. In the arrivals area, people seemed relieved that their trips home were over.
Mike and Stacy Hampton of Duxbury said their flight back to Logan from Atlanta had gone smoothly, even with two small children in tow.
"It was a little crowded at the Atlanta airport, but the flight wasn't bad at all," Mike Hampton said.
Stacy Hampton said the trip was worth any travel hassles. "It was great," she said. "We got to see our family and the kids – all that stuff."
