Upton Teen Dies After Fall From Chair Lift In Shrewsbury
SHREWSBURY (CBS) – Members of a local high school ski team are mourning the death of a teammate after a tragic accident at Ski Ward in Shrewsbury.
The 19-year-old from Upton was with the Nipmuc Regional High School team when he fell 30 feet from his seat on the chairlift. According to the Worcester District Attorney's spokesperson, the boy was found "on the icy ground." He was "face down and unconscious."
"He was about a third of the way up the lift," says Shrewsbury Fire Captain Mark Mann. "He sustained a head injury."

He says medically trained staff at Ward immediately did CPR. Firefighters used an all terrain vehicle to get to the spot where they were working. EMT's continued trying to revive the teenager on the way to the University of Massachusetts Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
The owner of Ski Ward says there were no mechanical problems with the lift.
The ski area was crowded with members of local after school ski programs. Witnesses said it looked like the teenager had a seizure. Investigators are looking into that possibility.
