Ski Report For Week Ending Dec. 10
BOSTON (CBS) -- This week provided many northern mountains their first substantial snowfall of the season.
Bretton Woods and Cannon in New Hampshire have seen up to two feet of snow in just the past four days.
In Maine and New Hampshire, expect mostly packed powder. Thanks to well groomed trails and temperatures cold enough for snow making, many resorts will enjoy their opening weekends.
Vermont features the best and most abundant skiing in New England this week with terrain rapidly expanding.
Okemo Mountain leads the way with 39 trails. Sugarbush celebrates its 52 anniversary with more than 20 inches of new snow, while Killington opens its holiday festival with 20 inches of new powder.
Powder Hounds need to head farther north toward Jay and Stowe that have seen 36 inches of new snow in the past week! Get ready for big bumps of powder and holiday cheer this weekend.
Despite no natural snow, Southern New England is slowly making in roads thanks to extensive snowmaking in the recent cold air.
Trail counts are limited but good for an early season run. Nashoba, Jiminy Peak and Ski Butternut are open for business.
The weekend weather will not be as cold. Saturday will be the best day with a mix of sun and clouds and highs in the lower 30's. Temperatures will continue to climb Sunday but expect a wintry mix to change to rain Sunday. Rain changes to snow by Monday in the Northern Mountains.
