Sizzling...

The first half of June has featured below average temps, with six days in a row of highs in the 60s and no 80 degree days so far this month...highly unusual!  That is all about to change.  Summer officially arrives at 7:09 in the evening on Wednesday and we will hit the ground running with the hottest day in nearly a year!

The same area of high pressure that has kept us seasonably cool over the last few days will start to shift tomorrow.  Tuesday will be the transition day as the interior begins to warm up in to the 80s, he coast will still feel the effects of the cooler marine air holding temps down once again in the 60s and 70s...sunshine will develop after a cloudy start again.  The surface high will continue to shift south of us and into a Summer position over Bermuda.  This will start the warm return flow into New England and with ridging aloft heating up all levels of the atmosphere, we are going to roast!  The atmosphere will be plenty hot enough to support upper 90s for a couple of days the question is can we hold off a seabreeze in Boston.  At first glance, it does appear like winds will stay offshore and Boston will climb close to the record of 98 on Wednesday but seabreezes can be sneaky and if it forms before the landbreeze gets going that could keep temps from reaching such loft numbers.  Regardless, we are talking about one location out in Boston Harbor...the majority of the area won't be influenced by the ocean and will soar into the mid and upper 90s!  Along with the heat comes the humidity and it will feel oppressive on Wednesday so don't overdo it.

Thursday will feature similar high temps and a very high chance of keeping the winds going offshore, so the record of 95 will fall.  Thankfully, the westerly wind component is a dry direction and the air on Thursday won't be as humid...a drier heat.

A coldfront will enter the picture on Friday with a bit more cloud cover and the chance for showers and thunderstorms, but not before we see 90 for a third day in a row making it an official heatwave for most.  The front will have cleared the area by the weekend setting up a beautiful Saturday with around 80, lots of sunshine and much lower humidity.  The Humidity will return for Sunday and that may lead to a late day thunderstorm.
