Six Shaw's, Star Market Stores Closing in Massachusetts, Rhode Island
WEST BRIDGEWATER, Mass. (CBS) -- Shaw's Supermarkets Inc. announced the company will be closing six Shaw's and Star Market six stores in Massachusetts and Rhode Island, spokesman Steve Sylven said in a prepared statement.
The following stores will be closed no later than Aug 3: 465 William South Canning Blvd., Fall River; 11 Berdon Way, Fairhaven; 666 Washington St., Stoughton; 280 Winthrop St., Taunton; 100 Franklin St., Westerly, R.I.; 1500 Diamond Hill Road, Woonsocket, R.I.
"We strive to ensure the success of all our stores, however, it is occasionally necessary for us to close those that are not meeting company goals," Sylven said. "The stores identified have not been profitable for quite some time, and despite the best efforts of the company and our associates, we have not been able to reposition them to better compete in the marketplace."
