Signs of Winter...

An interesting stat came into the weather office this afternoon...Ponkapoag Pond froze over this morning for the first time this season and almost a week earlier than average.  I also noticed during our Thanksgiving travels to and from Connecticut that the ponds on either side of I-84 in the hills of NE Connecticut were also icing over.  And, my true gauge that Winter is arriving...my Dad's bird bath in the backyard iced over as well...let Winter ring!

Not so fast...we have another warm rainmaker on the way for the middle of the week.  This is a potent frontal boundary with low pressure to develop on it.  The upper level dynamics are impressive and will lead to a period of very heavy rain a few hours long which will likely exceed an inch.  A few showers may break out tomorrow night with some of the warm air advection but the main course driven by a negatively tilted shortwave will hold off until Wednesday night.  Rain will be gone first thing Thursday morning and cooler and drier air will work in for the remainder of the week.
