2 Men Arrested After Shots Fired At Officers, Police Chase
WINDHAM, NH (CBS) – Two men are under arrest after shots were reportedly fired at police officers during a chase from Massachusetts into New Hampshire.
It started around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday when authorities tried to stop a 2002 Mazda. A person inside allegedly fired a gun at a Haverhill police officer.
After crossing the border into New Hampshire, the car crashed on Route 111 in Windham. The driver, later identified as Manuel Antonio Soto, 20, of Haverhill, was arrested. Police said they found a gun and two magazines in the Mazda.
The passenger, Javonnie Chambers, 21, of Berlin, New Hampshire, ran off into the woods and a massive search was launched.
Residents in the Mockingbird Hill neighborhood were warned to lock their doors and be on the lookout.
Windham Police said he was found walking on Interstate 93 north in Londonderry just before 3 a.m. and taken into custody by New Hampshire State Police.
No one was hurt, according to investigators.
Soto is charged with reckless conduct and being a fugitive from justice. He will be arraigned Wednesday in Rockingham Superior Court.
No specific charges have been released yet for Chambers.
