Shoppers Pack New Market Basket In Revere

REVERE (CBS) -- Loyal customers are packing into the new Market Basket in Revere to buy their groceries and hear about the weekly specials.

The newest store opened Sunday.

"We've been waiting for this to open for a long time and we're really excited," one customer told WBZ NewsRadio 1030.

Shoppers say they're thrilled the Demoulas family feud is finally over and Arthur T. is back at the helm after an employee strike nearly shut the company down.

"They have the best prices around," another customer said. "Honestly I was afraid the store wouldn't recover. I thought it was going to be sold to another corporation and the people that really need it would suffer."

Workers refused to go back to work unless Arthur T. was reinstated as CEO.

Revere store manager Ron Lambert said that in typical Arthur T. style, their leader was back at the store very early Sunday morning before the supermarket opened to make everything was going OK and give the workers a pep talk.

"He was here at 4:30," Lambert said. "He wanted to get a good look and talk to everybody, he was very excited. He just likes the fact that we're all back to work and he's happy for all of us."

The company is also planning to open stores in Waltham, Athol, Littleton and Attleboro.
