Man Shot, Killed By Police After Altercation In Tewksbury
TEWKSBURY (CBS) -- A man was shot and killed by police after a violent altercation at a career-training school in Tewksbury on Tuesday morning.
Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan said at about 9 a.m., 30-year-old Douglas Sparks, of Medford, stabbed a male and female employee at the Salter School parking lot on Woburn Street.
The DA says the victims arrived to work in the same car, and were stabbed in the arms and hands. The victims were both hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
Police say Sparks fled the scene and went a block and a half away to Forest Avenue, where police confronted him. When officers approached him, they saw that he was holding a handgun.
Police say Sparks refused to comply with the officers' orders and shots were fired by the officers. Sparks was transported to Saints Memorial Hospital in Lowell where he was pronounced dead.
Police say Sparks was armed with a knife and BB gun.
The female victim had a prior dating relationship with Sparks, according to authorities. District Attorney Ryan said, "This frightening incident appears to be another example of a person violently confronting someone at their workplace about a personal domestic situation."
