Shinzawa On The Adam Jones Show: No. 1 Seed Not Important To Bruins
BOSTON (CBS) - With 13 games left to go in the regular season the Bruins possess a comfortable lead in both the division and the conference.
Some fans are worried that the team will sell out for the number one seed in the Eastern Conference at the expense of key players not getting the proper rest needed in order to sustain a deep playoff run.
Fluto Shinzawa of the Boston Globe came on 98.5 The Sports Hub's Adam Jones Show Thursday night and he says not to be concerned.
"I don't really think it's a priority. Sure it'll be nice if you do end up in that 1 vs. 2 scenario against Pittsburgh to have home ice, and obviously you want to win at the end of the season, but the main thing is how you play the game. They want to be going into the playoffs practicing good habits, and they have been during this winning streak."
At the trade deadline the Bruins elected to bring in Andrej Meszaros and Corey Potter for some blue line help. Zdeno Chara is obviously a given, but the young d-men in Matt Bartkowski, Torey Krug and Dougie Hamilton are by no means locks to crack the starting lineup every game.
Fluto says figuring out the defense before the start of playoffs is imperative, even more so than gaining the top seed in the conference.
"Points are good to have, but I don't think that's the main point of significance. They want to figure out this defensive thing and figure out the six guys that are gonna be there. They obviously wanna stay healthy and get guys rest. They have some road trips at the end that Zdeno Chara has no business going on. It'd be nice to be ahead of Pittsburgh, but I don't think it's that big of a push for them."
