Shaughnessy On Gresh & Zo: Is It Time To Focus On Next Year?
The Red Sox dropped their first game in Texas, which made it four losses in a row, and once again fell below .500.
Gresh thinks that General Manager Ben Cherington needs to make a visit to the club house and tell everyone that they are on "notice." He feels it's the last chance he has to get this team back on track before they drop these next two series and teams start calling about Cody Ross and David Ortiz.
Many fans are holding out hope for this team to make the playoffs with the addition of the extra playoff spot this year. Dan Shaughnessy of the Boston Globe takes issue with this extra spot.
"I really am starting to despise this phony wild card, you know one game deal. It's holding up hope where there shouldn't be hope. You don't deserve to be talking about playoffs when you've been this bad."
The guys also discussed sitting Jon Lester against the New York Yankees after the starter struggled in his last outing. Shaughnessy thinks that if the Sox sit the "ace" then it'll be like waving the white flag, but what will happen if they get swept by New York or drop two of three?
Do you just start to focus on next year?
