Shark Warning Issued At Chatham Beaches
CHATHAM (CBS) - After many credible shark sightings off the coast of Chatham, the Harbormaster is urging swimmers to pay attention to their surroundings.
Over the past week, the Harbormaster Department has received confirmed white shark sightings in the vicinity of Monomoy Island and the North Beach Inlets. There have also been reports of seal carcasses attacked by sharks in the area.
As a result, the Harbormaster has prohibited swimming along the entire eastern shoreline within 300 feet of observed seals from the Orleans/Chatham line at Nauset Beach south to Chatham's South Beach where it connects to Monomoy Island.
The town says they are not closing the beaches entirely, but are just renewing their warning to swimmers to be aware of their surroundings.
