Shark Hunters Surprised With Number Of Sightings On Cape Cod
CHATHAM (CBS) – It was from his perch atop the Ezyduzit, shark hunter Niko Chaprales had his most memorable brush with a great white just days ago.
"We tagged this guy and he just kind of rolled to his side and rolled his teeth back and just looked at the old man on the stand, kind of gave him that look like, don't try that again."
That frightening look was aimed at Niko's father Bill, the one harpooning and tagging the shark, so scientists can now track its whereabouts. Their spotter in the airplane snapped photos, right above the Chatham Light House Beach.
WBZ-TV's Christina Hager reports
Wednesday night was crowded along the lookout perch, definitely not crowded in the water, since officials are telling swimmers to stay out.
They say they've seen these sharks in relatively shallow water, 4-5 feet deep, and just a stone's throw from the beach where all the people are.
When WBZ's Christina Hager asked the shark hunters if they'd take a dip here, one said he wouldn't even reach in to grab a suitcase full of a million dollars.
"I wouldn't swim there 'cause I've been this close to them, from me to you. I don't want anything to do with them!"
From the mouth of one who carries an awfully big stick.
