Shalise Manza Young On Toucher & Rich: Injuries At Cornerback And Welker's Drops
The Houston Texans came into Foxboro 11-1, but left with one more game in the loss column after the Patriots dominating 42-14 win on Monday night.
The Boston Globe's Shalise Manza Young joined 98.5 The Sports Hub's Toucher & Rich on Tuesday to discuss the Patriot win, injuries to a pair of New England corners, and Wes Welker's numerous drops on Monday night.
Cornerback Aqib Talib suffered a hip injury late in the second quarter and rookie Alfonzo Dennard aggravated his hamstring on Monday night, with neither player returned to action afterwards. Were they precautionary moves by the team to minimize the risk of further injury?
"I think it probably was; at that point they pretty much had the game under control," said Manza Young. "We did see Dennard in the locker room after the game, which is usually a good sign. I did not see Talib. Obviously I don't know the severity of the injury -- I don't want to speculate -- but we did see Dennard which probably means he's okay. We didn't see Talib, which in Patriots land usually means the injury is a touch more serious."
They switched gears and went on to discuss things on the other side of the ball. Wes Welker caught three passes for 53 yard and could have racked up a few more had he not dropped four passes in the second half. It seems in the last two or three weeks that the wide receiver is having trouble holding on to the ball.
"I agree with that. He's had a couple of tough games, but obviously Tom Brady believes in him more than anybody else and as long as Tom Brady's still on your side he's going to keep feeding him the ball."
Plus, is it too early to start asking about whether Rob Gronkowski will be back in time for Sunday's game against the San Francisco 49ers?
