Severe Delays On MBTA Red Line

BOSTON (CBS) -- The T reported severe delays on the Red Line Thursday morning due to a disabled train.

A disabled train on the Braintree branch was the cause of the problems, the MBTA said on Twitter.

MBTA officials said a failure in the train's propulsion system resulted in a burst of smoke.

"There was a mechanical issue on a train at Quincy Ctr, not a fire," the MBTA tweeted in response to those on social media who believed there was a fire on a train.

The MBTA asked riders to utilize the Commuter Rail at Braintree, Quincy Center, and JFK if possible.

At 10:15 a.m., the MBTA said regular service on the Red Line had resumed.
