Several Mass. Mayor Elections To Be Held This Week
BOSTON (AP) — New mayors will be elected in several cities around Massachusetts this week and incumbents elsewhere are asking voters to keep them in office.
New Bedford voters choose Tuesday between state Rep. Antonio Cabral and Jon Mitchell, a federal prosecutor, to succeed Mayor Scott Lang, who is not running again.
In Northampton, former city councilor Michael Bardsley faces David Narkewicz, the city council president and acting mayor since Mary Clare Higgins resigned.
In Springfield, incumbent two-term Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno is being challenged by City Councilor Jose Tosado. The winner will be the first mayor to serve a four-year term rather than two years, under a change in Springfield's charter.
In Holyoke, Mayor Elaine Pluta is being challenged by Alex Morse, a 22-year-old recent Brown University graduate who would be the state's youngest mayor if elected.
