Rhode Island Woman Killed In Head-On Crash On I-95 SB In Norwood
NORWOOD (CBS) - A Rhode Island woman was killed in a head-on crash Friday afternoon on Interstate 95 in Norwood near Exit 11.
The crash happened just before 4:30 when a car traveling north on Route 95 crossed over the grass median into the southbound travel lanes, state police said.
Traffic was backed up significantly by the crash, which shut down I-95 southbound for more than two hours.
According to police, Charles Iarrobino, 53, of Foxboro was driving a 2013 Range Rover northbound and for some reason crossed over the grass median and struck a 2000 Toyota Camry head on in the southbound lanes and then hit a 2012 Ford Edge before coming to a stop.
A 58–year-old woman from Foster, R.I., a passenger in the Toyota, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. The Toyota's two other occupants, a 28-year-old Providence man and a 62–year-old man from Foster, R.I., were seriously injured and taken by medical helicopter to Boston Medical Center.
The driver of the Ford, Nina Battista, 25, of Quincy and her passenger, Katlynn Landry, 25, of Quincy, were taken by ambulance to Norwood Hospital, police said.
Iarrobino suffered minor injuries and was taken to Norwood Hospital, police said. A 5-year-old boy in Iarrobino's car was also taken to Norwood Hospital for evaluation.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
