Senate Candidate Robinson Instead Running To Replace Barney Frank
BOSTON (AP) — Another Democrat is dropping out of the Massachusetts Senate race.
Newton software engineer Herb Robinson said he'll announce next week he's no longer a candidate for the Senate, but instead is jumping into the race to fill the seat currently held by U.S. Rep. Barney Frank, who isn't seeking reelection.
Robinson said he had always wanted to run for Frank's seat. He also said the candidacy of Harvard professor Elizabeth Warren has made it unlikely he could win the Senate race.
Other Democrats have dropped out of the Senate race, including Newton Mayor Setti Warren, City Year co-founder Alan Khazei, state Rep. Thomas Conroy and Robert Massie.
Marisa DeFranco, an immigration attorney from Middleton, and James King, an attorney from Dover, remain in the race.
Whoever wins will face Republican Sen. Scott Brown next year.
