Sen. Scott Brown Weighs In On Chick-fil-A Controversy

BOSTON (AP) — Republican U.S. Sen. Scott Brown says he disagrees with the CEO of fast food chain Chick-fil-A, whose opposition to gay marriage has touched off a national furor.

Brown said he was glad company president Dan Cathy later clarified that his company doesn't discriminate.

Brown pointed to what he said are strong Massachusetts laws prohibiting discrimination against employees and patrons and said he trusts that Boston Mayor Thomas Menino and other officials will ensure those laws are honored.

Menino has acknowledged there's little he can do to prevent the fast food chain from coming to Boston, but says he stands by his position that the company isn't welcome in the city because of its strong opposition to gay marriage.

Brown made the comments during an online chat Friday on Boston.com, website of The Boston Globe.
