Sen. Brown: "Reagan Democrats" Helped Me Win Seat
BOSTON (AP) -- Massachusetts U.S. Sen. Scott Brown is crediting so-called "Reagan Democrats" for helping him win the seat once held by Democratic stalwart Edward Kennedy, whose picture Brown says he keeps on his office mantel.
The Republican made the comments Friday at the Reagan Presidential Library in California.
Brown said Reagan Democrats, who crossed party lines twice to elect the former Republican president, also turned out to back his candidacy. He said Reagan Democrats are still a force in Massachusetts and without their support he would not have been elected senator.
Brown also acknowledged that there was "a bit of luck working for me" in last year's special election.
Although he didn't always agree with Kennedy, Brown said he still keeps a picture of the liberal lion in his office.
