Secret Service Agent Hurt In Crash Gets Fundraising Page

BOSTON (CBS) -- A gofundme page has been created for one of the Secret Service agents injured in last week's collision between a car and a van carrying Hillary Clinton's protective detail.

According to the page, Garrett FitzGerald suffered major injuries to his spinal cord in the crash in Wakefield, New Hampshire on December 30, leaving him without feeling or movement from the upper chest down. FitzGerald remains at Mass. General Hospital.

"There is absolutely no doubt that Garrett possesses the determination to excel in his recovery," wrote his friends, Rob Freed and Scott Ackerman, on the page.

Freed and Ackerman created the page to help FitzGerald and his fiance, Joan. The couple had just moved to Boston in September and were planning their wedding for March.

"In addition to the physical and emotional toll caused by the accident, Garrett and Joan will also face severe financial burdens. Scott and I are setting up this GoFundMe account as a way for friends and family to show their love and support for two honest, hard working and incredible people, who mean everything to us."

Wakefield, New Hampshire police said the agents were in a Ford Taurus on Route 16 when they were hit head-on by a Mercury Sable that crossed the double yellow line to pass a car on the snowy road. The driver of the Sable, 45-year-old Bruce Danforth, died at the scene. Police said Danforth didn't have a valid license.

WBZ reached out to the U.S. Secret Service about FitzGerald, but they declined to comment beyond confirming that three of the four injured agents were treated and released, and one remains hospitalized.
