Police Catch Man Wanted For Attempted Murder In Weymouth
WEYMOUTH - A 33-year-old man was arrested after an extensive search in Weymouth Friday evening. A woman told police that a man she lived with and whom she identified as Anton Matthews had repeatedly beaten her and nearly strangled her to death over the past four days.
The victim told police she was afraid to leave the apartment.
When officers responded to the home on Audubon Road to take Matthews into custody, he had already fled out the back door.

Police set up a perimeter and searched with K-9 units, and a State Police helicopter.
Around six o'clock, a resident on Old Quarry Drive reported that his back door was broken in, and he immediately called police.
When officers arrived, they arrested Matthews, who had broken into the home and changed clothes in an apparent attempt to conceal his identity.
A handgun was later found in Matthews' apartment.
Matthews was charged with attempted murder by strangulation, two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, unarmed burglary, destruction of property, larceny and possession of a firearm without a license.
