Schilling's game company selects RI headquarters

Curt Schilling's video game development company has selected a location in downtown Providence, R.I., as it prepares to move from Massachusetts.

38 Studios, which is receiving a $75 million loan guarantee from Rhode Island, announced its new headquarters Thursday. The company is currently located in Maynard, Mass., and is promising 450 jobs in Rhode Island by the end of 2012.

Some business officials and political candidates have opposed the Economic Development Corporation's loan guarantee to 38 Studios as overly risky to taxpayers, especially since the company doesn't have a proven track record.

Schilling, a former star pitcher for the Boston Red Sox, founded the company in 2006.
