Saugus Firefighters Rescue Dog From Hot Car In Walmart Parking Lot
SAUGUS (CBS) -- With temperatures creeping into the 90s, firefighters rescued a small dog from a hot car at a Walmart parking lot in Saugus on Sunday morning.
Several people spotted the white dog panting heavily and moving around inside the car parked in the Broadway lot.
Shortly before 11:30 a.m., the concerned onlookers found firefighters in the area who were called to an elevator alarm in the area.
Firefighters were able to get into the car using an unlocking kit and free the distressed dog.
A Walmart employee gave the dog some water and the pet seemed to be doing well once freed.
After being called to the store, officers found the dog's owner inside and gave him the dog.
Police say they receive several calls each year about a pet locked inside a hot vehicle.
They will then contact the animal control officer to handle the investigation.
The animal control officer will decide whether the dog's owner should be cited or fined.
