Snakes On A Train? PETA Hoping To Put Rubber Snakes On MBTA Trolleys
BOSTON (CBS) - Remember the woman who lost a pet python on the MBTA's Red Line last year?
That gave PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) an idea.
The group is asking the 'T' for permission to put fake rubber snakes on subway trains for one week. The snakes would be coiled around a car's poles and hang straps.
PETA's Dan Mathews told WBZ NewsRadio 1030 it's the group's way of protesting how snakes are killed to make things like shoes and handbags.
"They're nailed into trees, hose shoved down their throats to tighten their skin so that they can be sliced open. There's so many nasty elements to the exotic skins industry, and we thought we'd really try to shock a few people into thinking about their wardrobe, having these very odd hang strips on the T," said Mathews.
The MBTA has not yet replied to PETA's request.
