Salvation Army Volunteers From Massachusetts Helping Tornado Victims
NEW BEDFORD(CBS) - The people who lost everything in last week's devastating Oklahoma tornado will need a lot of help for months to come.
This week, two Salvation Army volunteers from New Bedford are heading to tornado-ravaged Moore, Okla., hoping to make a difference. "I probably will be helping people cope. The needs change, so I am willing to do whatever is needed," Salvation Army volunteer Jim Kegle said.
Kegle is part of the Salvation Army's specially trained disaster relief volunteer group. His mission is to provide emotional, spiritual and relief services for tornado victims.
"I've seen the footage of the tornado and the destruction. I'll be walking around Moore and speaking to the folks. If I can be of any help, I would love to help them," Kegle said.
At about 3 p.m. on May 20, a massive, deadly tornado tore through Moore, wiping out blocks of homes, killing 24 people and injuring hundreds. Right now, thousands are homeless.
"I am ready to be a listening ear," Kegle said.
