Salem, N.H.Official Charged With Kidnapping, Sexual Assault
BROCKTON (CBS) -- A Salem, N.H. planning board member is under arrest after police say he held a woman against her will in his apartment for three days.
Jeffrey Gray surrendered to authorities in Brockton Tuesday, and waived extradition to New Hampshire to face charges of kidnapping and aggravated sexual assault.
Police say the victim had placed an ad on Craigslist looking for a roommate.
WBZ-TV's Jim Smith reports.
"The suspect responded to the ad, brought her to (Windham) New Hampshire and subsequently kept her restrained in his residence for approximately 48 hours before releasing her," said Capt. Michael Caron of Windham Police.
Gray was immediately taken into custody by New Hampshire authorities during his court proceeding Tuesday. His attorney is not offering too many more details.
"He just waived extradition and cooperated with authorities and is going back to face the charges in New Hampshire," said Mark Stevens.
Authorities say Gray had been renting the property in Windham for about a month. The property owner tells the Union Leader that Gray seemed like a normal person who was calm and sincere.
