Salem Harbor Station To Be Demolished In 2014
SALEM (CBS) - The oldest power plant in the state is now slated to come tumbling down sometime in 2014.
The new owner of the Salem Harbor station, Footprint Power of New Jersey, said the plant will operate until it's closed in two years.

Footprint Power CEO Peter Furniss said that once the plant shuts down, it will be another year to a year-and-a-half for demolition to begin, and then they will take all the time they need to get the site clean.
Furniss added that Footprint Power will be developing a proposed efficient, new natural gas plant for the northwest corner of the site, freeing up the rest of the property for future development.
Furniss said the new plant will not use seawater for cooling, will generate fewer carbon emissions, and use natural gas from a new pipeline two miles off the coast.
A public hearing on the plan is scheduled for September 19th.
