Runners Readying For Boston Marathon
BOSTON (CBS) -- With only three weeks to go to the Boston Marathon, runners are taking advantage of the brisk spring weather.
On Saturday, runners did their final long run along the snowless marathon course.
"Compared to last year's Boston (Marathon), the training was a lot better. The roads were slick with negative temps. This year was a godsend," runner Terry Martin said.
With many water stops along the way, everyone was enjoying the day. It was a long training run, and then the tapering and fundraising begins.
"I'm raising money for my cousins scholarship fund. He died in Afghanistan and there is scholarship in his name," Martin said.
Boston Marathon bombings survivor Heather Abbott has her own marathon team to support her foundation, which provides prosthetic devices to limb loss victims of trauma.
"It's incredible to help raise awareness that amputees face," she said.
Gavin MacBeth is running for Boston Children's Hospital.
"My son was treated there for open heart surgery and without Children's he wouldn't be alive today," he said.
