Rumor: Celtics Interested In Jamal Crawford
BOSTON (CBS) - Potentially in need of a scorer, the Boston Celtics are reportedly interested in shooting guard Jamal Crawford.
Crawford is currently under contract with the Portland Trail Blazers, but can opt out of his deal on June 29. If he is not traded by Thursday's NBA Draft the 12-year veteran is expected to do just that, becoming an unrestricted free agent.
With two first round picks Thursday night, the Celtics might be able to put together a package to acquire the 32-year-old. But according to CSNNW.com, Boston is not alone in their interest of Crawford. The Philadelphia 76ers, Minnesota Timberwolves, LA Clippers and Phoenix Suns are also in the running for his services. That will drive up his trade price, or price on the open market if he elects to become a free agent.
NBA Draft: Will The Celtics Use Both First Rounders?
Crawford would be intriguing for the Celtics, as he would give them some quality scoring off the bench. He averaged 14 points per game for the Blazers last season, coming off the bench in all but six games, but shot a career worst 30.8 percent from three-point range and just 38.4 overall from the field. He also isn't known for his defensive effort, something the C's pride themselves on, or rebounding, which Boston is in dire need of.

While Crawford would be a solid addition to the Boston bench, especially if Ray Allen decides to go elsewhere, the price tag might get too steep for Boston. If that's the case, the Celtics would be better served to look elsewhere.
