MERRIMAC (CBS) -- State police are now saying it was road rage, not racing that caused a wreck on Route 495 in Merrimac Friday afternoon.
One of the cars involved ended up rolling over and both driver and passenger were seriously hurt.
The driver, a 30-year-old man from Methuen, was air lifted to Brigham and Women's Hospital. His condition was unclear, but was described as "stable."

The passenger, a 29-year-old Methuen woman, was air lifted to Mass General Hospital.
She was listed in critical condition.
The other car involved, which police describe as a gray Porsche 911 driven by a white male with white hair, took off from the scene. Police are looking for that vehicle.
State Police said witness reports originally indicated that the cars appeared to have been racing. Investigators are asking any other potential witnesses to come forward as they piece together the sequence of events that led to the crash.
The highway was closed for about an hour during rush hour, which caused a several-mile back-up.
